"80's baby"

Music Feeds the Soul

I wish we can go back in time though, 1980's early 90's....time of the big speaker boxes being carried around, break dancers everywhere you went, graffiti art, the infatuation with thick gold jewelry, and the wind-breaker suits that kept us fly. I was a late 80's baby so I was still young at the time but through movies, music and magazines I still experienced it as I got older.

It's crazy how fashion circulates and comes back. People change and grow up, trends evolve but music always has the same effect, it feeds the soul. Music helps me, and all others, through tough times and there with us through the great ones too. Music is there during the ride to school, to work, while you wait for the bus, or waits for anything in that matter, while you doing work. It is always there.

We can never forget the lyrics to our favorite's songs, yet we can't remember some test questions or what someone said to us a while back. I know its about repetition and it has something to do with the lyrics over a tempo. However, I won't hear a song for years and I'll still remember every word.

Music connects people. It lets you know you are not the only one who feels or thinks that way. It lets you express certain things on a melody or beat that you couldn't otherwise just say or speak. Music takes you back to a specific time, a specific feeling, whether sad, angry or of love or of simply joy.

Music is always there. It's a coping mechanism for sure. When I'm going through a horrible time or struggling, I turn to my favorite artists to make it all better. They can understand me; they can help me through it. Even when I'm simply happy and celebrating those same artists are there for me to party with!

One can't go wrong with music in their life. From rap to gospel, from hippies to punks, from Mexican music to African music, it doesn't matter where you're at or where you're from, or what you prefer, music feeds the souls!! Music has the same effect. It will never let you go hungry.

From Jumps 2 Pumps!

From Jumps 2 Pumps!

vs

Maybe I have grown to love my pumps, heels, wedges, platforms, stilettos a little too, too much. Yes, I’m guilty, just like almost every other girl in the universe! The way they make me feel and look, the way they shape my body, the way they drive the men crazy are just a few reasons why you will rarely see me in anything else.  A tiny part of me blames Sex and the City and their focus on shoes for accepting and making my addiction and ok thing by the way!!
As a teenager, I felt the same way about my sneakers!! Never did I show up to school or to the mall on the weekends without the newest, freshest pair of Jordan’s or Nike Air Max’s! Clean, fly sneakers made me feel cool and it definitely let me express my fashion sense, especially in middle school where we had to wear uniforms! Yuk!  I remember even competing with the boys to see who had the most recent and popular jumps. I’d go as far as making my mom take me to L.A so I could make sure I’d walk thru my school halls in the latest J’s. I loved getting compliments from the basketball team on my shoes (giggling).
Now jumps are for fun and pumps…well my pumps are a lifestyle! Although my personality and attitude have stayed tomboyish, my look and style have definitely evolved to a classy, sassy, sexy, grown woman! Tennis shoes imply a comfortable and chill look, even a playful, teenage look and a woman like me is not willing to sacrifice looking like that more than once in a while. A 26 year old, like me shouldn’t pull off that young girl/tomboy look every day in my opinion!  It’s cute but that’s all it’ll b. We women are in the big, bad world now, where people take you seriously and it’s all about first impressions! With heels, you can dress up or dress down without losing the “grown, sophisticated woman look”. One never knows who they will bump into out in the street.
From putting on a pair of Jessica Simpson wedges with some jeans to putting on some BEBE stilettos with a pin skirt or a dress, my legs elongate and my body takes a new shape and form! The calves in my legs pop out more; it’s amazing what a pair of high heels can do. I can be in the worst mood or the laziest mood when I wake up, but when I get dressed and that pair of pumps go on my feet it transforms my attitude and feelings. Once they are on I can’t wait to walk out the door and show off my legs, outfit, body and most of all those shoes I love so much! I dare anyone to mess with me in my heels!
I know a lot of men would say they don’t really care as long as a woman looks good, and of course they would say that, they’re men!! Girls with a nice sneaker game are a total package for them. Two things men love, women and sneakers! Put them both together, we got a winner. But at the end of the day, a mature, real man knows the difference between jumps and pumps on a female! I want that man! I want that man that can’t resist me or take his eyes off me in a pair of stilettos. The man that will know and can’t wait until I take everything off but my pumps behind closed doors!
